What is the pressure rating of HDPE pipe when using Victaulic® couplings for HDPE?

Victaulic® couplings meet or exceed the working pressure of HDPE pipe. The pressure rating of HDPE pipe is determined by the material and the pipe wall thickness SDR or DR. ANSI size pipe is typically made to PE4710 which has pressure ratings of 333psi in SDR 7, 200psi in SDR 11 and 125 in SDR 17. ISO size pipe is typically made from PE100, which has pressure ratings of 25 bar in SDR 7, 16 Bar in SDR 11 and 10 Bar in SDR 17.

Can I bury Victaulic® products for HDPE pipe when installed on HDPE pipe?

Yes. Victaulic® couplings for HDPE pipe are designed for buried services. Victaulic provides industry-accepted coatings that protect the coupling housings and hardware from harsh underground environments. What are the bending capabilities of Victaulic® couplings for HDPE?

Plastic Pipe Institute (PPI) and many pipe manufacturers publish the minimum bend radius recommended for HDPE pipe. These values vary by pipe diameter, wall thickness and material. Pipe tested with Victaulic® couplings meet or exceed the pipe recommendations, meaning the joints maintain their integrity at tighter radii of curvature than recommended for the pipe itself.

Can I still drag HDPE pipe with Victaulic® couplings for HDPE installed?

Victaulic test results indicate that there are no negative effects on allowable tensile loads when using Victaulic® couplings for HDPE pipe. Dragging HDPE pipe lengths joined with properly installed Victaulic couplings is similar to fused systems of the same size based on industry standard allowable tensile loads. When dragging HDPE pipe lengths longer than 500 feet, contact Victaulic.

Are there requirements for pipe handling and preparation that differ from the fusing process I use today?

Yes. The pipe ends need to be relatively square minimal pipe scratching/scarring to the sealing surface (reference installation instructions for details). No additional special pipe handling is required. Unlike fusing, the pipe ends can be wet, cold, or warm since the coupling is not sensitive to humidity or temperature variations. The “perfection” of facing HDPE pipe for fusion (scraping the oxide layer, exact squaring of the end, wiping down with a cleaning agent to remove diret and oil) is not required for use of Victaulic® couplings for HDPE pipe.
