Claude H. Dyal Water Treatment Plant
- Carbon Steel
- Compressed Construction Schedule
- Design Flexibility
- Ease of Installation
In the City of Cocoa, Florida, the Claude H. Dyal Water Treatment Plant was replacing 50+-year-old 48” pipe and butterfly valve. The City of Cocoa needed a solution that was able to provide a fast installation due to limited downtime and be able to fit in the space provided. Because the plant was only able to shut down the water for four hours to do the repairs, the installation needed to be extremely efficient.
Victaulic’s W719 butterfly valve and AGS couplings were selected because they were able to meet the needs of the City of Cocoa. Victaulic’s solutions met the needs of the tight space restrictions because Victaulic’s W719 grooved end butterfly valve does not require the need for a dismantling joint, which is required when using flanged end valves.
Not only did Victaulic reduce the space requirements, but also simplified the installation with a light valve and efficient installation utilizing AGS couplings. Flanged solutions would not have been able to fit in the space restrictions, due to their size and weight. Additionally, flanged solutions would not have been able to be installed in the time frame required.
The installation of the 48” W719 took less than one hour to install once it was in the pipe location. The Victaulic products were able to be prefabricated on-site and installed in a vertical position.
The City of Cocoa was highly satisfied with their choice of Victaulic grooved solutions. Victaulic helped the Claude H. Dyal Water Treatment Plant meet their need and got their water system back online without affecting the City of Cocoa.
