Expanding the capacity of manufacturing operations during the coronavirus pandemic was essential for Thermo Fisher. With the need for their products skyrocketing, expansion of their facility in Lenexa, Kansas, was needed quickly. A project this size would typically take over a year to complete, but Thermo Fisher needed the 120,000 square foot addition complete in only eight weeks.
Rand Construction, a Kansas City-based group, designed, coordinated, and installed the heating and cooling system, among other tasks. With a project of this size and a compressed timeline, Rand Construction knew Victaulic brought the solutions that were ideally suited for this job to the table.
With the health and safety of their crew a top priority, Rand Construction was able to fabricate parts of the piping system in their shop using Victaulic roll grooving tools to prepare the pipe for installation. Victaulic Installation-Ready™ couplings and fittings allowed easy installation on the 2″- 8″ pipe. ” Over a matter of two days, we hung a little over 1,00 feet of pipe, safely and quickly.” Says Chad Young, foreman for Rand Construction. With the innovative solutions from Victaulic, Rand Construction was able to install and test the chilled water and hot water system in record time.
